I’m always fascinated by the fact that high on Lakeland fells, you are often tracing walls, seemingly built for no apparent reason.  Of course some of these were originally county boundaries (Lakeland used to be a meeting point for three counties).  Still, the dedication and effort, without much if any mechanical aid has left a tremendous spectacle at times.

And quite often, they didn’t mind if rocky outcrops got in the way…

These are on Lingmoor Fell, overlooking Langdale.
